BYD has previewed the all-electric Sealion 05 ahead of its official debut on April 20 in China.
The Sealion 05 EV will be offered in two rear-wheel-drive configurations, producing either 200 kW (268 hp) or 240 kW (322 hp). Both variants use a rear-mounted single motor setup.
The model is expected to debut with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which should improve energy density and safety over the current iteration, along with support for fast “flash charging” aimed at reducing charging times.

The Sealion 05 EV follows BYD’s latest design language, featuring clean surfacing, semi-hidden door handles, and an available roof-mounted LiDAR sensor—hinting at advanced driver assistance capabilities.
A new orange-red exterior shade adds a youthful visual identity. In terms of size, the SUV measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase, placing it squarely in the competitive electric crossover segment.
Inside, the cabin is centered around a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Unlike fully minimalist setups, BYD continues to retain physical controls for key functions, making the interface more user-friendly.

There will be features such as a 50W wireless charging pad, dual cup holders, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation to enhance overall comfort and convenience. The rear seats can also fold flat to create a 'bed mode'.

The Sealion 05 EV will also get a LiDAR-based system, likely integrated with BYD’s DiPilot driver assistance suite. If widely offered across variants, this could give the Sealion 05 EV a notable edge in terms of sensor hardware and semi-autonomous capability within its segment.
